Having just finished my A-Level exams I was in need of a creative project. Earlier in the year I had visited the University of Hull's open day and had heard about the Three Thing Game jam, in which teams are given three words to build a game around in 24 hours. I asked my friend to give me 3 words to mimic the game jam. She gave me the words: 'Noodle' (The name of her cat, Photo found below), 'Hyundai' and 'Rampage'.
I set about creating that vision over the next three days, using Unity. I knew I didn't want to overcomplicate the game, so I decided to go for an arcade style game which repeats, instead of something with levels, a story line, OR COMPLEX GAME MECHANICS.
I thought about what would prompt Noodle into her rampage, what do cats love?... FISH.
I PROGRAMMED FISH to randomly swim through space where Noodle could collect them. I then worked on the timing and scoring of the game. As well as adding a very nice particle effect to the exhaust of the Hyundai. I added some sounds, including a random meow engine as well as some smooth jazz in the background because that's the kind of cool cat Noodle is. The game was complete!
